There are those awkward moments when you have this really beautiful native attire that goes well with that 'stubborn' gele you have been avoiding. Worry not, help is here and turn those moments to wonderful ones with the following easy-as-abc steps. YES! It's easy-as-abc.
STEPS:
#1: Start by standing in front of a mirror or a friendly guide.
#2: Holding the gele along the length, fold the edge inward to give it a straight edge. This is important to give the headgear a fine finish and firmness around the head.
#3: Next, divide the gele into two equal parts along the length to get the midpoint of the gele. Don't let go of this midpoint. If you have gotten this far, thumbs up because you are almost there.
#4: Making sure your hair is well-packed, place the midpoint of the gele you got in step #2 at the back of the head, exactly at the base of the neck. And with both hands, hold the left and right parts of the gele tight.
#5: With the left hand move the left part to the right and use the right part of the gele to overlap the left part of the gele. Make sure it is tight throughout the whole process. Hold the end of the gele tightly, you are almost through at this point.
#6: This next step is the plaiting, it's used to add design to the gele; to make it stylish. With the ends you can twist, tuck, or tie this end. If you want to make a crown gele, you're going to be tucking the ends in so no piece shows. And then you when the right end is tucked in, you will do the same with the left end. It all depends on your creativity.
#7: After the plaiting, tie the ends securely at the base of the neck. Tie it again and cover the tied ends with whatever is left to give it a good look at the back.
#8: You are done! Just rearrange your gele to suit your taste, put on your beads on whatever accessory you have and look beautiful....
